Can you imagine the life without WIFI? Have you ever gone through a WiFi crisis like not being able to stream anything on Netflix? It’s annoying. It’s slow. It’s frustrating. And the worst thing is it halts our life. Usually what we will do is to recheck our connection or make sure the power hasn’t gone out, but little did we know there are some things we can do to try and amp up the signal.
At the first, we should know that WiFi signals are not like radio waves whose signals can stretch into the meter range, and WiFi signals are only about 12 centimeters. So what factors can influence the speed? Maybe because WiFi signal’s reach can be limited barriers or distance, router positioning or something else. Here we provide you with some tips.
- Put the router to the center
Putting the router in a central position can help maximize the signal as routers have a range of 360 degrees. If the router is closed up in a small space, just put it in a spot closing to the center of your home. If it is unable to center it, try to move the router a little bit closer to where most your devices are located.
- Elevate the Router
Giving it height will keep the signal from being blocked by flooring materials like metal, concrete, or wood. Lifting your router off the floor will expose it to a much larger and clearer broadcasting range. So remember not placing the router below or any objects or pieces of furniture.
- Remove all the interference
There are many sources of interference from cell towers, electronics and other wireless networks. So how to eliminate the problem of slower speeds, dropped signals, or fluctuations in signal strength becomes the most important thing. And what we can do is to keep our router away from devices such as Bluetooth, microwaves, or TVs. Another situation where you live in close proximity to someone else with a router (e.g. apartment, townhouse) could be affecting each other. If it is possible, check to see if there’s channel overlap.
- Adjust the Antennas
Setting up one antenna in each direction will allow you to cover all bases no matter which direction your device configured for.
